A HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Today we celebrated Halloween!  We spent the day goofing around the house watching the Mizzou game (finally a victory), taking naps, making Halloween cookies, etc.  This evening the kids put on their costumes and we took off.  Cade was a cool looking vampire and Cali was a cute black cat.  They both looked really good!  We made our stops at Grandma and Grandpa's house as well as Boca and Pop's house.  We then headed to our old neighborhood to trick or treat.  Cali was much more in to it this year.  Of course Cade has it down pat.  It was a beautiful evening to be out and about.  We also made our annual stop at Tammy's and another friend's house before heading home.  The kids came home and took inventory on all of their candy.  They did very well once again!

Last night Kim and I attended our friend's annual halloween party.  We are already thinking of next year's costumes..........

We hope you all had a wonderful and safe Halloween!  Thanksgiving will be here before we know it!  Check back soon for some more pics.

A FUN-FILLED FALL SATURDAY

Today was a beautiful fall day.  It started out very chilly.  Cade had an early soccer game and it was in the upper 30s when the game started.  His team lost a close one by the score of 2-1.  They only have one game left!  The season has flown right by.  This afternoon it warmed up to 65 degrees!  We headed out to the local pumpkin patch, Pumpkin's, Etc.  This business is owned by some family friends of ours who we grew up with here in Platte City.  It is truly a "mom and pop" operation.  They sell more than just pumpkins, they make some awesome fudge that you must try!  This is also the same place we found Lily last year!  They always have kittens running around each year that they allow people to adopt right before Halloween.  The kids love it out there and so do Kim and I.  It was a beautiful day to be outside.  We took some really good pics.  Here you go:

We also took some pretty good pics of the kiddos out front by our colorful trees..........

We took it easy this evening by watching our Missouri Tigers get smoked by #3 Texas.  So sad.  We are looking forward to a fun Sunday.  See ya soon

Friday Night Update

Yes, we are still alive and kickin' here at the McGinness household. The last time I posted, we were fighting some sickness and not doing real well. Everyone is now healthy! Cali was down for almost 10 days! Cade ended up missing 2 days of school. Kim and I somehow slid through all of this and stayed healthy.

Last Saturday Cade had a soccer game. The team had lost 2 in a row, but they bounced back and won this game 4-2. They play again in the morning. It is going to be in the upper 30's when the game starts...........chilly!

School continues to go well for Cade and Kim. Cade is learning all about the state of Missouri. Today they had Missouri Day at their school. He came home telling all kinds of things about our great state.

Cali is still full of it. I am not sure what "it" is exactly, but she is full of it ! Her imagination continues to amaze us. Yesterday she received a medal for helping pick up at Tammy's house. She was very proud of it! Kim took the kids to get their flu shots yesterday. They were both so brave! Here is a picture of Cali showing off her medal and the kids with their flu shot band aids..............

It should be fall temps right now, but winter is trying to sneak in early this year.  It is just plain cold and nasty outside right now.  It is not what I call enjoyable fall weather at all.  The leaves have turned into a variety of beautiful colors though.  Here are a few pics of our front yard.

I will "try" to post another update very soon! Please check back in a few days. Good night.

WEEKEND WRAP UP

The past 5 days have been interesting around the McGinness household. Last Wednesday Kim picked up Cali early b/c she had a fever. She took her to the doctor on Thursday after her fever spiked to 104.9 degrees. She tested negative for the flu, H1N1, strep, and pneumonia. It ended up being a nagging virus that still has her down. It is Sunday night and poor Cali is still not doing well. She has had a rough 5 days. I am off tomorrow for Columbus Day (I love Christopher Columbus!) so I will stay with her all day. Hopefully she is back to herself soon.

Friday was Homecoming here in Platte City. My bank hosted our annual Community Tailgate. It was quite an event. This year we put on a Hot Dog Eating Contest! It was awesome! Cade came up to help us out. Unfortunately Kim had to stay home with our sick Cali Liu. After the tailgate, Cade and I headed up to the game. The Pirates battled for 3 quarters, but could not hang in the end. It was a fun game and great atmosphere (cold as could be though).
Saturday morning we woke up to 30 degree temps! Kim, Cade, and I (Cali stayed with Grandma and Grandpa) participated in the Autism Walk out at the Kansas Speedway.  It was nice and cold out there, but we battled through it and walked our 2.5 miles in support of Autism. Cade started feeling bad that afternoon. He developed a nasty cough. With two sick kiddos, we took it easy the rest of the day and night. It was actually kind of nice. I even took a 3.5 hour nap!
Today Cade has been feeling a bit better. Cali was so tired all day long and her cough is still giving her fits. The high today was only 42 degrees! It was a great day to just stay inside to watch football, play some games, and just hang out. Right before dinner we saw two deer come walking down our driveway. It was pretty cool to see them mosey down the drive. They stopped and munched on our roses and other plants. I tried to snap a couple of pics as they went by.

HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY CADER!!

Today we celebrated Cade's 10th Birthday! Wow, 10 years old..........that just does not seem right. The years fly by way too quickly. 10 years ago today we were at St. Lukes Northland waiting for the birth of our son. Kim went into labor the night of October 5th. She was up all night with our loving and worried dog Kodi by her side. He sensed that something was going on. We anxiously headed to the hospital that next morning and that is where we stayed. It was an all day ordeal..........Cade almost waited until October 7th to come into this world. He was born at 11:07pm that night. That day was full of so many emotions. We were so scared, yet so excited. I will never forget that moment when our little boy came into this world. Cade has been a blessing to our lives. He has truly grown into such a fine young man!

Today we woke up a little early so that he could open his gifts. He woke up bouncing off the walls with excitement! Cade had a great day at school and then came home for a bit before heading to soccer practice. He was actually very, very excited for soccer tonight. After practice we dined on some Mexican food (Cade's choice) and then relaxed for the rest of the evening. It was the perfect ending to a very special day!

Cade's Birthday Weekend

Cade turns 10 on Tuesday, October 6th. This weekend we celebrated his big day with two gatherings. On Saturday afternoon Cade invited 4 buddies to join us on a trip to Carolyn's Pumpkin Patch and the Liberty Corn Maze. It was a bit cool out, but it was truly a beautiful fall afternoon and evening. We let the boys go on their own at the pumpkin patch while Kim, Cali, and I hung out. The boys loved it and Cali loved it. Since we were with Cali the whole time we took a whole lot of pics of little Liu! After the pumpkin patch we grabbed a bite of pizza and then went back to the corn maze. The boys ventured into the maze in the dark. They each had a flashlight and once again, had a blast. We did not get home until almost 11:00pm! The boys still wanted to do presents and cake even though it was so late. They still had a ton of energy. They did settle down pretty quickly though. Naturally we are all a bit tired today!

Today we celebrated Cade's birthday with a family gathering here at the house. I cooked brats and burgers on the grill and Kim made a scrumptious angel food cake with cherry icing! It was a pretty low key afternoon. It was nice that everyone was able to make it over to help wish Cade a happy 10th b-day. Cade is at soccer practice right now. He should be tuckered out tonight. We will do another post on his actual birthday...........check back soon!
